America’s Got Talent: The Champions video: Paul Zerdin returns!
On Monday night’s new episode of America’s Got Talent: The Champions, you’re going to see none other than Paul Zerdin back in action! The ventriloquist is a former winner of this show, and someone who has an incredible ability to make people laugh just on the basis of his wonderful storytelling. While he doesn’t sing in the way that Darci Lynne and Terry Fator do, he has a different skill set that is rather special in its own way.

In the video below, you get a good sense as to what we’re talking about as he and his puppet find a way to both beat-box and hum a melody at the same time. It’s pretty impressive that he’s found a way to do this, since he’s effectively having to make two different sounds at the same exact time and it’s so much harder than it looks. We also do love the back-and-forth that he and the puppet have, though we also have to say that this segment as a whole feels freakishly short. Is some of this just cut out of the internet version? Is there something more on the other side of it?
The one thing we’re a little worried about for Paul is that we’re not sure Simon Cowell digs this as much as the other judges do, and this would be somewhat of a recurring theme for him this season. He hasn’t been as fond of some of the acts we’ve seen this season who were originally on the show before he was — he even buzzed Tom Cotter! Paul was back during the Howard Stern era so we don’t actually have any read as to how Simon feels about him. Personally, we do think that he is very funny and incredibly talented, but we do also think at the same time that he’s not getting enough time in this particular performance to showcase every little thing that he can do.
Of course, we also don’t think that Paul really has all that much to prove with this show anyway — with the same thing going for many of the other winners. He’s already got a million dollars and he’s benefited significantly from his success on TV.
