Supergirl season 4 episode 11 video: Alex’s life without Supergirl

Supergirl season 4 episode 3

When we first learned that Supergirl season 4 episode 11 was entitled “Blood Memory,” our first reaction was merely wondering what that meant? Well, we certainly have a little bit more sense of that now.

At the end of this past episode of the CW series, we got what may very well be the biggest surprise of the season to date — Alex no longer knows the truth about Kara being Supergirl. She had her memory wiped as a means to protect her, given that Colonel Haley is going to interrogate everyone until she figures out the truth. This is, at least for now, the only way to keep her safe.

Yet, doing a memory wipe like this has some pretty significant aftereffects, especially when you consider for a moment the fact that Kara is such an enormous part of her life. It’s one thing to wipe the memory of some redshirt DEO employees who we probably won’t see longer than a few episodes; it’s another to wipe the memory of Alex’s own sister. She’s going to still have a recollection of a childhood with her (most likely), but there are huge gaps now in her memory and she’s going to be able to tell that something is missing.

So is Alex a little bit helpful now in stopping Colonel Haley? Sure, but we have to imagine that Haley’s still going to have some questions as to why in the world Alex doesn’t have a recollection of certain parts of her life? It feels like there’s only so long that this secret is going to be hidden and everyone needs to have some sort of awareness of this.

As a whole, our thoughts entering Supergirl season 4 episode 11 is that Kara and company are likely going to realize that just wiping Alex’s brain won’t work forever and they’ll have to find a different way to keep the secret. Unfortunately, doing so isn’t going to be easy, and it may require finding a way to move Haley away from her current position. At the moment, it’s certainly clear that she isn’t going to give up as long as she’s there and these characters are far too moral to ever do anything malevolent towards her.
