At the hospital, things are perhaps a little bit easier. You know that the vast majority of your series is set there so you can really just lean in to the idea of having great cases and some surprising twists along the way. You can even find a way in which to ensure that a specific case impacts one of the doctors in a particular way. That is not altogether difficult.
Yet, at the same time there are some other challenges that do come the show’s way when it comes to focusing on personal lives outside of the hospital. There needs to be a way to focus on this without also having it supersede anything that is going on within the medical cases of the week. That’s not always easy, but these personal stories are essential. It’s one of the reasons why this show is as strong as it is. You care about the people who are treating the patients and you feel for them when things go wrong. There is, after all, an acute awareness that things often will, but there has to be some sort of substance underneath that.
For The Good Doctor season 2 episode 13 next week, entitled “Xin,” most of the personal struggle could revolve around the relationship between Shaun and Lea. There are some romantic feelings that are here, but there is also another important component to this relationship. They have to find a way to live together, while also remaining friends and possibly leaving the door open for something more. When you have a roommate, it can be rather easy for there to be some surprise tension that you uncover here and there.
Below, CarterMatt has the official The Good Doctor season 2 episode 13 synopsis with some more news when it comes to what lies ahead:
