Arrow season 7: Expect a more stable Oliver, Felicity coming up
Monday’s premiere is going to offer up a chance to see how the two characters are doing in the other side of the Elseworlds crossover, where there was a chance to feel a little more optimistic about the future of the relationship. There is still that dark cloud hovering over the future timeline (this all has to be some sort of misdirection, right?), but for now, I’m okay living in the present if it means some happier Oliver / Felicity scenes. Given what the two are up against, especially the presence of Diaz in Star City, they are going to need each other. They’ve been through so much that there aren’t exactly many other people who would ever understand.
Speaking in a new interview with TV Guide, show executive producer Beth Schwartz had the following to say about the state of their relationship in the near future:
They’re definitely on track. They’re back to, in a sense, being normal between each other. There’s no friction between the relationship. They have a lot of obstacles in their way, but they’ll be a team. It won’t separate them. … They’ll be a force to reckon with.
At this point, the biggest thing to hope for the two characters is that they have a little bit of fun — maybe let them have an opportunity to smile and enjoy one other’s company. There are going to inevitably be some moments coming up that are hard, and with that, there’s no need for the two of them to fight in the process. Keeping this relationship strong is going to be the big thing that benefits both of them in future — they will be able to focus a little bit more on some of their individual pursuits, knowing that there will be someone in their corner to offer a shoulder and a smile.
Given that there are still more than a dozen episodes left to go on Arrow season 7, one thing does feel abundantly clear: There will probably still be an ebb and flow with this relationship. Expect more highs and lows, so cherish the highs when they’re here. Also, cross your fingers for some more career revelations with Felicity within the next batch of episodes, as well.
