If you’ve watched Jon on America’s Got Talent, then you know already a little bit of his background: He’s a football player who also is a skilled magician. He learned magic as a way to cope after a tragic murder in his childhood, and since that time he’s become so good at it that it is a viable second career for him. With the right staging and the right show backing him up, it feels fair to wager that he could actually be more successful doing this than being a part of the NFL.

Since being on the flagship show, though, Jon has been through a lot — most notably, he was traded to the New Orleans Saints from the Philadelphia Eagles and soon after that, it learned that he was in need of immediate open-heart surgery. He almost lost his life, and now he’s got a chance to move forward and do some of what he loves the most: Performing and pleasing an audience.

The performance in this video below is certainly mesmerizing to watch, as Dorenbos is able to use a game of tic-tac-toe as a means of delivering an impressive stunt. He’s fantastic at what he does — very charismatic, relatively unpredictable, and able to really inspire a crowd. If Jon needs a third career, public speaking could be it. We’ve certainly seen variations on this sort of trick many times before, where the judges either choose or say something at random and the magician claims he knew what was going to happen all along. Nonetheless, it’s always still impressive to watch if it is sold in the proper way. Jon’s is.

Judging from what we’ve seen on Twitter already Howie Mandel has the Golden Buzzer for this episode, so whatever happens in terms of that will be entirely up to him. We think that there are a lot of really interesting contenders in this episode, and Jon could certainly be one of them … at least for the public vote. It doesn’t really seem as though he’s going to get the buzzer here.
