The Resident season 2 video: Emily VanCamp talks Dr. Alec Shaw

The Resident season 2 is going to air another new episode coming up on Monday night, and it’s going to be an opportunity to learn more about Alec Shaw. He is one of the new characters who has firmly entrenched himself in the world of this show and we think that, as a whole, there’s a lot to appreciate about what he brings to the table.

In the video below, you can also get a good sense as to what Emily VanCamp thinks about the character! She explains some of how Alec is almost an aggrandized version of Conrad and Nic, at least in terms of his view on medicine and what he hopes he can do to reform the field. He feels strongly that the system is broken, really to the point where he doesn’t even want to run the community clinic that is tied to Chastain. Yet, Nic does challenge him and it seems as though he’s going to be firmly entrenched in running this for some time moving forward.

What do we think is going to come out of this storyline? More than anything, we’re expecting conflict in a number of different directions. It’s hard not to envision that when you’re putting a number of extremely strong-willed people all in a confined space. These are all characters who are passionate about what they do, after all! There’s also another dimension to this in whether or not there could be some sort of love triangle blossoming here with Alec, Nic, and then Conrad. We don’t necessarily think that The Resident needs to go in this direction, but we do understand the merits of having sort of tangible conflict for Conrad and Nic. They do clearly have some issues to work through and we will see over the course of this season, whether or not they can handle a lot of that and stabilize their relationship.

For us, we will say that The Resident works just fine with Conrad and Nic as a couple, but we also do understand the merit in someone like Alec coming in and (potentially) stirring things up at this juncture. We’ll just have to see what happens from here, since there is so much time left and The Resident has a fairly long season as a whole. We’re really only around the halfway point with it just now, so that leaves open plenty of room for a wide array of things.
