One of the things that we do appreciate about this show greatly is the attempt to tell a story within some realistic parameters. Take, for example, the aftermath of the quarantine story. We feel like with many hospital dramas, they would try to just push forward following what happens as soon as humanly possible and not spend a lot of time sifting through the aftermath. In a number of ways, we get that and understand why. After all, you do want to get to some other medical cases and you also probably want your show to feel reasonably procedural so that it does well in syndication.

Yet, we gotta give this show some credit for trying to create some element of genuine balance here from start to finish. The writers are trying to bring you a nice mixture of things, in between giving you some new cases Monday while also not forgetting about the past. Following what happened with some of the characters in the quarantine — including Shaun, Dr. Lim, and Dr. Melendez, there are decisions that need to be made. Do the three deserve suspensions for some of their actions? They had to think in the moment during the quarantine crisis and not all of them made decisions that will be endorsed by the bulk of the hospital. Yet, they did do what they felt was best, regardless of the consequences. Shaun’s going to be the one that is in the tightest spots, given that his breakdown doesn’t even fit in the “he did what he felt was best” category; he did what his body and mind was telling him in the moment he broke down. That’s going to be a hard thing to convince people to look past, since this could have sent the hospital into great peril if Morgan didn’t find a way to help him get out of it.

While we feel reasonably confident that nobody is going to be losing their jobs permanently on Monday night, there could be some setbacks. The events of the quarantine are not going to be forgotten, and we wonder if some of the impact will be long-lasting moving forward.
