Designated Survivor season 3: What should be in a trailer?

Designated Survivor season 2 episode 2

Designated Survivor is inching ever closer to a premiere, but we certainly recognize that we’ve got a ways to go still! Production is still underway, and Netflix isn’t going to be in any hurry to push things along.

One of the things that we’ve said in the past is that we’d like to see a trailer unveiled at some point in the spring, and for the sake of this article, we’re asking a different question: What should appear in it? What sort of content should we get a chance to check out? Within this piece, we’ve got suggestions for a few things for Netflix to emphasize more than any other.

1. The basic outline of the show – That may seem rudimentary, but you do need to set the table for viewers who haven’t seen the show yet. given that Netflix is a new home for it, this is something that should be almost necessary.

2. The perception towards President Kirkman – Do the American people like him? How’s he doing in his Presidency? This is a chance to really look at the general reaction to his time in office and explore some of that a little bit more. This is, after all, a great way to really kick off whatever the individual stories are.

3. Introduce the adversaries – Obviously, it would be wonderful if there are a lot of people who like Kirkman, but that’s not going to be the case. This trailer will need to establish a central conflict, and precisely who he and the administration are squaring off against this time around.

4. Hype up some other sort of dramatic twist – While we don’t think the show needs to go into overdrive when it comes to hyping up jaw-droppers (ABC did that far too often), we do think that Netflix should ask itself one question: What will make people watch this show, beyond just having Kiefer Sutherland in the Oval Office? Playing up the season 1 twist may not cut it anymore. They need another hook, and an unexpected curveball entering the world of politics. This is what makes season 3 rather crazy entering the run — Netflix has to find a way to bring something to the table here that isn’t already out there in politics today. How can you shock people in this climate? It’s no easy task.
