A Million Little Things ratings improve after Grey’s Anatomy; The Orville steady

A Million Little Things

For everyone out there who loves A Million Little Things, there was a lot to celebrate over the show’s move to Thursday nights. It has a much better lead-in courtesy of Grey’s Anatomy for the rest of the season, and that also means a much better chance at an actual renewal.

While nothing is certainly official right now, it does feel like the odds of it coming back are now higher than ever. Last night’s new episode — the first in the show’s new timeslot — ended up generated a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This marks the best rating for the series since its premiere this past fall, and with over 5.2 million viewers watching, this is the best overall performance of the show as a whole.

What this basically means is that A Million Little Things fans can hopefully settle in and enjoy the story a little bit more — provided that they continue to watch live. This is a show that, from the onset, tried to capture the emotional pull of This Is Us. While it doesn’t have the same buzz and attention around it, it certainly has found a rather nice audience for itself.

For those wondering, the winter premiere of Grey’s Anatomy ended up generating a 1.9 rating, up versus its fall finale and #2 on the night. (The Big Bang Theory, unsurprisingly, won the night with a 2.3 rating.)

The Orville keeps fighting

We were admittedly worried about the show’s future after the departure of Alara last week — while she was just one character, she was a particularly popular character and this series cannot really afford to lose a lot of viewers. Luckily, the series did stay steady at a 0.7 rating in the demo — all things considered, good news since there was more competition in the timeslot this week. It is actually improving on its Gotham lead-in when it comes to total viewers.

Sidebar: How is Gotham, a show that’s basically setting the stage for Batman, not performing better? It’s so frustrating that a Batman movie can generated hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office, yet a genuinely smart Batman origin story can struggle to get more than two million viewers.

Other news

It’s worth noting that Brooklyn Nine-Nine last night generated a 0.9 rating in the demo — while it’s a 25% drop from the premiere, it’s still better than most of the show’s season 5 average on Fox. That does still give us some optimism for the future.
