Is SEAL Team new tonight on CBS? Looking ahead to the future
Alas, that’s not happening tonight. The show is taking a one-week break, but there’s no seemingly-apparent reason for it beyond just CBS wanting to give their shows a little bit of a breather. The thing that we find a little bit baffling is the decision to repeat different shows tonight rather than air new episodes of SEAL Team and Criminal Minds, meaning that these two shows are not going to be getting the catch-up opportunities that they could’ve had otherwise.
Luckily, at least the hiatus for SEAL Team at the moment is not unbearably long — you will get a chance to have David Boreanaz and company back on the air again next week with a very important episode … but also a dangerous one, given that at the center of this installment is the character of Sonny in danger — we’ve had these sort of episodes before where important characters are in jeopardy, and this will be certainly in that vein. The danger with Sonny is mostly just that he’s a beloved character and a man who is such an emotional heartbeat to the team. He’s someone who is at times a shoulder to lean on and someone who can occasionally lighten the mood. Everyone will react to that situation in their own way.
On the other side of this episode, it is possible that we may be left waiting for a few more weeks for more episodes of the show — CBS is going to be shifting around their programming and because of that, SEAL Team will eventually be replacing Criminal Minds in the schedule at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. That’s not happening just yet (Criminal Minds has a few episodes left before the end of this season), but be prepared for that in late-February because your viewership is absolutely going to matter in further establishing the show’s future. That’s the thing that is more worrisome on SEAL Team than what’s going to happen to Sonny. Maybe we’re a tad naive, but it just feels like after losing Alana the show would be especially cruel to take out another character before we get around to the end of the season.
Over the next few days, we anticipate some more previews for what’s going to be coming up next, so be sure to come back for more.
