The Masked Singer video: Who is the Lion? Joel McHale takes on mystery

We now find ourselves in the midst of a double-edged sword when it comes to this panel of judges. Do we need them? No. Do we think some of their guesses are ridiculous? Sure, but it’s hard to be angry about a Community reunion between Joel McHale and Ken Jeong. As a matter of fact, we would happily pitch to make the panel the entire cast of Community (or at least minus Chevy Chase) just for the sake of the laughs.
So what are Joel and Ken up to in the sneak peek below? They’re doing their best to discuss and critique the Lion, who has come out of stage with apparently a riveting performance. The Lion is, at least so far, one of the larger mysteries that the show has to offer — some of the performers have been fairly obvious, but we wouldn’t say that there have been that many clues as to who this person is just yet. What we do know is that they’ve got some vocal chops and the judges are reasonably complimentary of her work.
In general though, we hold true to much of what we’ve said about The Masked Singer over time — while we understand the temptation to make this show about strictly the guessing game, it is personally far more interesting when you cast some of the focus instead on enjoying the performances. If you’re watching just for the guessing game, you’re missing some of the point since this show can help you to either discover new talents outside your comfort zone or at least have you thinking differently about people you may have already known for one thing or another. That’s why we aren’t in any hurry to learn any more about some of these people; it’s okay if we end up having to wait for a little while for more.
