According to a new report coming in via TVLineGlee alum Lauren Potter is going to be appearing in an episode of the medical drama as Barbara Duncan. She is a pregnant woman with Down Syndrome who is kind and determined to do whatever she can in order to protect her unborn child. She does face increased risks both to her and her baby’s health because of a congenital heart defect, but she isn’t going to back down and will be determined to get through this.

Through her run on Glee, Potter proved herself to be a formidable force as Becky, a young woman who bonded with Sue Sylvester, who saw a touch of her own family history in here. While the two had a number of fun, comedic moments on the show’s run, there were a number of other heartbreaking scenes and emotional revelations. Becky became more and more of an important character as the series progressed and we personally loved her as a character and as a performer.

Chicago Med is continuing to make a concentrated effort in season 4 to feature a wide array of different medical stories, including many (like this) that we haven’t seen before on TV. That is the monumental challenge with a series like this — the medical-drama genre is one of the more over-saturated out there when you think about the sheer number of programs airing right now, and it can be rather difficult to really figure out precisely how to come up with new patients that are both interesting and memorable. Yet, one way or another, Chicago Med is finding a way and that is one of the things that is so exciting about the remainder of season 4.

Of course, beyond the case-of-the-week plots there are some larger character arcs deserving of a focus — think in terms of what’s going on with Will and Natalie as he tries to make his way back from witness protection. Meanwhile, we also have the aftermath of Connor punching his father in the face. Don’t you think that’s going to leave a mark, both physically and emotionally?
