While we’ve heard recently about a number of midseason / spring premiere dates at CBS, the network is clearly fine making us wait for a while on the premiere dates for both Elementary season 7 and also Instinct season 2.

Unfortunately, the two shows were not a part of the network’s premiere-date announcement earlier today, and the timeslots for them from last year are now taken up by new shows The Code and The Red Line. That means that, more than likely, we’re not going to be seeing these shows premiere until May sweeps or even in the summer.
Is that a bad thing for either Elementary or Instinct? Depending on where they ultimately land, we’re actually not sure that it is. If the two shows end up airing in the right timeslot in the summer, maybe they could at least produce decent numbers. The good thing about airing in the summer months is that there is less in the way of competition. On the flip side, the bad thing about airing in the summer is that there’s a little bit less in the way of available viewers. People are off doing some other things and because of that, it becomes all the harder in order to find any sort of super-consistent audience.
We do imagine that formal premiere dates will be announced for these two shows (plus also Life in Pieces, which is also currently MIA) a little bit later in the spring. Unfortunately, we don’t think that it’s going to be anytime soon given that there are no clear holes left in CBS’ schedule until at least the time in which May sweeps rolls around.
What we expect from these two shows
Basically, more great mysteries! We’re sure that there will be some great character moments in both, but really at the forefront of both of these shows are the cases, the drama, and of course, the whodunnit nature of them. In an era where crime shows are getting splintered off in a number of different directions, there is something rather delightful about the old-school nature of both of these shows. They’re appealing to watch, and we certainly do hope that the two of them stick around for some time moving forward.
