Hawaii Five-0 season 9 episode 13 review: What is Danny and Rachel’s status?
The last episode of Hawaii Five-0 was mostly focused on Danny and the mystery involving his daughter’s car accident. It was a horrific situation that not only involved Grace and her friend being run off the road in serious condition, but involved a creepy guy that was harassing them and eventually caused them to have an accident. Grace ended up having surgery on her head which was easily one of the scariest moments of the show for us this season, but she came out on the other side physically okay. That being said, with something as scary and as serious as this, we don’t expect it to be never mentioned again and it’s business as usual as she gets ready for college.

This episode kicked off with an update with Grace as Steve comes over to Danny’s place to check up on her. She’s doing well and Danny’s taking care of her… but maybe a little too much. Grace privately tells Steve that he’s becoming over bearing with the care and that she needs just a small break from all of the fatherly care and asks Steve to get him out of the house, even for a few hours. That moment comes when they get a new case – at least it’s nice to see that Grace is doing well.
Let’s talk about Rachel and her potential relationship with Danny for a moment because that’s something that Steve really wants to talk about too. He has a lot of questions about their status, but according to Danny they are both just connecting so that they can both be there for Grace to help her heal. Steve feels like there might be something more there, and we are kind of wondering if there could be as well.
The case of the week
The big story tonight revolved around a murder that took place all the way down at an underwater research station — as it turned out, trying to solve it was no easy task. Junior, Adam, and Tani all ventured far down under the sea in order to get to the bottom of what transpired there, but eventually, survival became just as important as trying to solve the crime. What we loved most about it was seeing the three of them work in tandem while Steve helped to call the shots from land. Yet, everyone had to scramble when someone made it increasingly difficult for everyone to breathe. At one point, Tani ended up saving Junior’s life. Then, Steve eventually went down to the base and gave the two of them just enough oxygen to life before a proper rescue could be done.
We think that this case brought everyone closer together, and not just with people who were also under water. At the end of the episode, we also ended up seeing Junior try to build a bridge with his father, who’s long held resentment towards him over some decisions in his past.
