Victoria season 3 episode 2 preview: Victoria vs. the chartist movement
One of the things that is so fascinating about this show is that it’s really impossible spoil — if you know history, you have a pretty good sense by and large of how things are going to go in terms of events. This is not really a show about what’s going to happen. Instead, it’s going to be about how the show presents it and some of the emotional context from start to finish. This is probably going to be an especially-huge component to the new episode coming next week, one that is going to feature a notable working-class revolt. It’s something that will put Victoria in a difficult position — she wants to present herself as a caring person who does pay attention to the plight of many people out there. Yet, at the same time she also needs to be a ruler. Sometimes a ruler has to push their kingdom forward.

One of the things that we’re actually the most curious about when it comes to season 3 moving forward is whether or not the show’s success or buzz changes at all by it airing in America prior to it coming on in the UK. This is not something that we’ve ever really had a chance to experience before — not just with Victoria, but with a number of different shows that are airing under the Masterpiece imprint on PBS. We don’t think that the ratings will change that much (We have a hard time thinking that a bunch of American viewers are finding a way to see the UK airings early), but it will be interesting to see.
In the end, one of the central struggles with Victoria as a whole is the same as it has always been — how much story do you choose to showcase within a certain period of time? You don’t want to dish too much too soon, but you also don’t want to stall out to such an extent that it doesn’t feel like the action is progressing in any form. Daisy Goodwin and the rest of the team behind the scenes will have to balance this.
