Let’s kick off this article with some facts: There is no official news, one way or another, on the state of the Lil Rel Howery comedy series. We do understand what Fox was hoping to achieve here — taking a top comedic talent who was a hot-ticket item at the time of the premiere, and building a whole show around him. Lil Rel has a great comedic voice, but what we are getting here is yet another reminder that having a good voice and being a compelling personality does not necessarily equal getting a lot in the way of viewership.

Do date, the Rel season 1 ratings do not offer up much in the way of optimism that a season 2 will happen. The series is averaging a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, but that is almost deceiving because the premiere episode got off to such a great start because of a special airing and a good lead-in. The majority of recent episodes have brought in something closer to a 0.6 as of right now, which certainly doesn’t give us a sense that the show will be back. It has had a decent lead-in for most of the season in Family Guy but that hasn’t even helped.

Also, there’s another issue to consider here: The fact that the series didn’t get an order for any additional episodes. That never bodes well for a show’s future.

When will a Rel season 2 renewal or cancellation be announced?

More than likely, you’re going to get a chance to find out the news by the time we get around to the spring. This is when Fox will have its upfronts and they will finalize their schedule.

Yet, we wouldn’t hold our breath here for more episodes. The intention seems clear at the moment that tonight is going to be the final episode and on the other side of that, everyone is going to move forward to whatever lies ahead (whatever that may be). Fox has found some success in the live-action comedy this year, but it’s come more in the form of Last Man Standing alongside The Cool Kids, which was picked up mostly due to the lead-in potential that it provides.
