What lies ahead on Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 12? Be prepared for a big story, one that puts the spotlight on Peter Stone and his father. We’re going to have a chance over the course of this episode to see a big story all about something that first started many years ago, back when Ben Stone was a main character within the Law & Order world.

For a few more details on that, take a look at the official SVU season 20 episode 12 synopsis below:

01/17/2019 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Thursday) : Stone (Philip Winchester) takes up the unsolved cold case of a serial rapist that consumed his father’s career. Also starring Mariska Hargitay, Ice T, Kelli Giddish and Peter Scanavino. Guest starring Jake O’Connor (Gavin Baker), Eden Malyn (April Baker), John Raymond Barker (Karl Patton), Rebecca Creskoff (Claire Newbury), Elizabeth Stahlmann (Amy Gardner), Jude Ciccolella (Edgar Noone) and Ned Eisenberg (Roger Kressler). TV-14 L, V

Of course, what we do wonder here perhaps more so than any other thing is whether or not this case is one we actually saw on Law & Order proper. We are well aware, after all, that many of these characters did have lives beyond just what we saw on the show so many years ago. Their histories ran deeper than that and there is so much more that could be explored about them. This could be an example of that, or it could tie back to something more familiar to longtime fans of this franchise.

We don’t exactly have a whole lot of details beyond this particular story, but as is often the case for SVU episodes, we do imagine that there’s going to be something important for almost everyone within this episode. A good way to look at it at the moment is like this — while Peter Stone may be excellent at what he does within the District Attorney’s office, a prosecutor is not a detective. He cannot go out and actually collect clues. Stone is going to be largely reliant on what some of the other characters uncover as the team all works together to get all sorts of answers — and then perhaps a little bit of justice on the other side of that.

Given that this episode is airing in just one week’s time, at least we’re not being forced to wait for it.
