Outlander season 4 episode 11: Brianna – Lord John story possibilities

Outlander season 4

There are certainly many reasons for excitement in regards to Outlander season 4 episode 11, but for us, one of the principal ones is getting to see interesting character combinations. One of the things that is great about a show in its fourth season is that there are so many wonderful people who inhabit the world — we know a lot about them all individually, but not so much about them in relation to others.

Well, this is where Brianna and Lord John Grey come into play. David Berry and Sophie Skelton will be sharing the screen for the first time on Sunday night’s new episode, and we don’t think we need to tell you why we are so excited for this. Lord John is one of the series’ strongest characters, a tormented and morally-complex man who tries to fulfill his duties amidst a constant cloud of heartbreak. His performance from earlier this season is one of our favorites of the entire series, and Lord John’s relationship with Jamie and Claire both at this point has been very much well-documented. He may not always see eye to eye with either of them, but there is a fascinating kinship that is present.

So how will Lord John react to meeting Jamie and Claire’s daughter? We imagine that he will have many emotions — and we’re speaking here without knowledge of their relationship in the books. Lord John may find her intellect appealing and appreciate her spirit — this is a similar spirit that he has long admired with Jamie and appreciated with Claire after his long recovery, despite whatever resentment he may have. We do think that Brianna does represent in some ways a continuance of the wonderful life and family that Jamie has, something that he has never been able to have in the same way. Yet, her situation (depending how much he knows) could be a reminder that the Frasers’ life is far from perfect … which is something that he really should have been aware of already.

Watching these two characters navigate the world of River Run and beyond together should prove interesting, especially when you remember Lord John’s government ties alongside the information Bree knows already about the American Revolution. Lord John is technically a part of the losing side, but that does not make him an enemy. Things are not always black and white here depending on the coat that you wear.
