Tonight, Ryan Eggold’s character will undergo chemotherapy rather than take part in a risky trial with no guarantee of success. While it could make his job as Medical Director quite challenging, he is realizing that he doesn’t want to leave the hospital and more importantly, he doesn’t want to lose Georgia and the future that they are building together. This is the best thing that he can do in order to turn both of those dreams into a reality.
Yet, there’s an interesting thing about doctors in that sometimes, they fail to learn the lessons from their patients. Even though Max knows that chemotherapy is a long and arduous struggle, he may think that because he’s a doctor, he will be more automatically equipped to handle it than virtually anyone else. That’s not exactly true. This is a hard thing for just about anyone to take on and he’s going to realize that as it takes a toll on him just like the rest of us. He’s going to be delegating a lot in order to ensure that he can still do his job of running the hospital, but it is going to be even more difficult than he may have thought on the surface.
For those who love the show for the supporting cast, have no fear — after all, there are a few important stories that are coming for them. The New Amsterdam episode 11 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you more or less confirms that:
01/15/2019 (10:01PM – 11:00PM) (Tuesday) : As Max (Ryan Eggold) begins his treatment, he realizes that it may slow him down faster than he originally thought. Meanwhile, Reynolds (Jocko Sims) must deal with an incident from his past when a reporter comes to the hospital and Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) and Bloom (Janet Montgomery) continue a contentious conversation. Also starring Tyler Labine as Dr. Iggy Frome and Anupam Kher as Dr. Vijay Kapoor. Guest starring Lisa O’Hare as Georgia and Margot Bingham as Evie. TV-14
Is it possible that the “contentious conversation” we’re getting from Dr. Sharpe and Dr. Bloom is tied to the latter’s recent Adderall addiction? It’s hard to really know any other way to take that, based on what we’ve seen in the story to date.
