A Million Little Things season 2: The current Ratings Bubble Report

A Million Little Things

Will A Million Little Things season 2 happen on ABC? That’s the subject on this current edition of our Ratings Bubble Report series!

We have looked at the numbers for this drama before, but we have to say that it’s a little bit of a different situation now than it was back in November or early December. After all, the show got a rather-huge vote of confidence from the network in the form of a schedule swap. Starting later this year, you’re going to see the show on ABC Thursday nights, which is going to allow it an opportunity to shine following Grey’s Anatomy.

If we were to just look at its season 1 ratings to date, we’d argue that it is probably on the bubble. The show is averaging a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which puts it on the lower end of some of the network’s active drama series. Yet, it does at least have consistency and a solid audience on its side. Most of the people who caught the premiere episode seemed to like it, given that the ratings have stayed fairly steady ever since and we do like to think that this means something. It’s a signal to ABC executives that, more than likely, we’re going to have a show that keeps a consistent audience year to year.

The logic behind the Thursday move, more than likely, is that it could get the show up to a 0.9 or a 1.0 rating. If that happens, there’s even more of a reason to think that it will be coming back. It already has really strong DVR ratings and a good ensemble cast. We just think that ABC understandably wants more and this move is one of the first big salvos that is coming from the network’s new programming head in Karey Burke.

Current Renewal Odds

Moderately high. The Thursday move is a sign the network believes in the show and that, more than anything, they are going to do what they can in order to help it get renewed. As for whether or not that actually works, however, that’s something that we’re going to have to wait and see on given that ABC will not announce a renewal / cancellation until spring. If only 25% of the people who are recording the show were watching it live, we’d feel all the more confident about it.
