Before we dive too much further into this discussion, we should point out that there is a rather-major rule change for this season. Since all of it is pre-taped and it is structured differently, each episode will give someone a chance to push a Golden Buzzer. This time around, that person was Mel B.

So who did she end up selecting for her Golden Buzzer honor tonight? Well, we don’t think that it’s going to be a surprise that it was Susan Boyle. She is the most famous contestant in the entire franchise and in some ways, it’s good that Susan got this given that otherwise, it would’ve eliminated all of the drama later on in the episode. We all knew that she was going to be advancing — she’s such a pro that it would have been impossible to imagine this episode with a different outcome. She sang “Wild Horses” tonight — a song she first did on the series during a results-show performance almost eight years ago — and it was enough to bring the house down.

It’s interesting in a way how Susan was a little bit quieter in her celebration of the Golden Buzzer than most. It was nice validation for her. She wanted to do the show to prove herself, and also show everyone out there that there is a reason to keep dreaming and keep fighting. She’s already had a big career, but why stop there? Why not continue to show the world what you’re made of?

Can Susan Boyle win AGT: The Champions?

We do think that there is a really good chance that this can happen, mostly because of her star power and then also her story. Boyle should’ve won Britain’s Got Talent many years ago — no disrespect to Diversity — and this is a chance to right that wrong.

We also do think that it matters that this show has a bankable global star at the very end of it and someone who could actually represent the franchise on a global scale. Given that Susan is already well-known, why not let it be her who shines after the fact?
