Saturday Night Live season 44: Where’s the next host announcement?

SNL

There is no new episode of Saturday Night Live on NBC tonight, and the thought of this does make us rather sad. With that being said, there’s another thing that also has us feeling a similar way: The lack of a hosting announcement.

At the moment, we know that the series is returning on January 19, but it’s fairly surprising that we’ve waited this long without getting a chance to learn the next host. What is the show really waiting on here? You would think that it would benefit Lorne Michaels and the network to have the host out there as soon as humanly possible in order to make sure that they can properly promote it.

Of course, it is very well possible that SNL, at least at the moment, doesn’t actually have anything altogether solid to promote. The reason why they may be waiting on revealing more news is simply because there may not be news. If they weren’t able to book a host before the holidays, it was probably hard to do so over the first few days of this past week. This will probably be a priority over the next several; we would personally be surprised if, by the next week rolls around, there is no information about the next host out there.

So who could SNL want? Maybe it benefits them for the Golden Globes to happen so that they can pick from someone of note who appears on that show. After all, they often do have a prestige actor actor or two from the film world who comes on and hosts the show in January — it’s great cross-promotion for Oscars season and it also gives SNL a good bit of clout along the way. We’re okay with this once, but at the same time we’d like for there to be a little bit of variety in who they get this time of year since it’s a little predictable. That’s why we would personally be more than fine if we were to see a comedian or even a former cast member come back. If nothing else, this would mark a great opportunity in order to see the series get some good ratings a little bit early in the year.
