Gotham season 5 episode 4 spoilers: Gordon, Penguin work together!

Gotham

As we share some of the first details from Gotham season 5 episode 4 airing on Fox January 24, there’s a big thing to remember with Penguin. While he is a villain, at the same time he is not a traditional villain. He doesn’t want to see the city in ruins; he wants there to be something left over for him to actually rule. This is important to him and because of that, he’s not always going to be down for working with some other villains. At times, he may want to work with the GCPD! You’re going to see that coming up in this episode.

Now, of course, the question you may wonder is this: Why would Gordon want to work with him? Why is Jim interested in furthering along some of Oswald’s own goals? We don’t really think that he is. Instead, what we’re thinking at the moment here is that Oswald must be one of the only ways that Gordon can really build towards some of what he wants, which is helping to make the city a little bit safer. These are, after all, very desperate times and with that, sometimes you have to resort to some desperate measures.

So what’s coming up for these characters and others? Below, the Gotham season 5 episode 4 synopsis offers some more information as to what is coming up next:

Gordon and Penguin are forced to work together and alliances are shaken when Lucius, Nygma and Barbara all have different ideas of the culprit behind recent events at Haven. Meanwhile, Selina continues her quest for revenge against Jeremiah (guest star Cameron Monaghan) in the all-new “Ruin” episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, Jan. 24 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-504) (TV-14 L, V)

One thing that probably should feel clear at this point is that Gotham is really planning to give a lot of material to Jeremiah this season, which makes us all the more fortunate that Monaghan was around for such a substantial amount of time in order to play Jeremiah. Because this character is meant to be the show’s version of the Joker, this is a character who needs to be essential to the story. He’s also the person mostly responsible for the current state of decay in the city. He is, with that in mind, the Big Bad in our mind … though we definitely still think the worst is yet to come with him.
