Call the Midwife season 8 premiere date revealed on BBC One

In the tweet at the bottom of this article, BBC One confirms that the Helen George series is going to be back on the air with new episodes on Sunday, January 13 — in other words, in just over a week’s time! This isn’t a substantial wait from the end of the Christmas Special, which means that you’re not going to be left to wonder what the future holds for this series for a particularly long stretch of time.
As for what we are expecting to see with this new series, we don’t exactly think that the drama is going to be looking to dramatically reinvent itself. It doesn’t really need to! Instead, what we would emphasize if we were Call the Midwife more than anything else is some quality storytelling about women in need and what the midwives and sisters of Nonnatus can do to help them. This should be a show that inspires hope, but also focuses on the realities of life. There will be some new faces throughout the season, and we also do think that the new Mother Superior, who was introduced in this past Christmas Special, should also have some sort of role.
We know that we’re certainly excited to dive back into the world of Poplar in order to see just how much has really changed since the end of season 7 — there was only so much the Christmas Special could show! We know that we are going to face a rather-different world on this show without Barbara being a part of it, but we know that this show has handled cast turnover as well as possible over the years and they will more than likely figure out something rather-similar here.
What about viewers in America?
You will have a chance to see Call the Midwife season 8 at some point in the spring — we are often forced to wait a little bit longer in the United States to see some of our favorite characters back in action, but we’re going to have a chance to see it soon enough. Have no fear of that!
