Ratings: Last Man Standing stays strong; The Blacklist drops for episode 2
Despite multiple Fox affiliates all over the country being dark on Charter Spectrum in the midst of a carriage dispute, last night’s new episode still won the night with a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s an improvement over its most-recent episode last month, and it does show that the sitcom has one of the most-loyal audiences out there. It does also make us wonder what the rating would’ve been if the dispute was already settled — which we think there’s going to be a scramble to do today because of the NFL playoffs.
It’s been assured for some time now that Last Man Standing would be renewed so long as the cast wants to keep making it; go ahead and consider this more evidence of it.
Other important ratings news
The Blacklist – We expected a big drop for episode 2, given the fact that the series was moving from a Thursday to a Friday and dropping a big lead-in. All things considered, a 0.6 rating is better than we thought the show was going to get — at least it’s a step up from NBC’s performance in this timeslot most of the season. By no means, though, does it guarantee a season 7.
Blue Bloods – With over 8.5 million viewers, the Tom Selleck series continues to be the most-watched show of the night and it’s really not altogether close. We’re very-much pleased with the performance of this show still, especially since there is a small number of CBS stations impacted with the Charter Spectrum dispute, as well.
The Cool Kids – we praise Last Man Standing, so we also need to praise its Friday-night companion for holding with a 0.8 rating in the demo. This is probably one of the sleeper hits of this season, and a good example of why it’s important to find complimentary programming — Fox determined that this show would pair well with Last Man Standing and it turns out that they made a smart decision.
MacGyver – Last night’s big episode generated a 0.7 rating in the demo, which is decent for itself given A) the aforementioned Charter Spectrum issue and B) airing opposite Last Man Standing. We think that it’s really found itself a nice, stable place on Friday nights.
