Blue Bloods season 10 renewal hopes: The latest Ratings Report

Blue Bloods season 9

What’s going on in terms of a Blue Bloods season 10 renewal? We’ve got another edition of our Ratings Report series here, and in this one, we’re going to take a long look at it!

We like to start these articles with a thorough look at the numbers, so let’s kick things off with that. To date, the Tom Selleck series is averaging a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This puts the series in line with a ton of other CBS shows, including SEAL Team and Hawaii Five-0, and better than many others including Madam Secretary and Criminal Minds.

As strange as it sounds here, though, we don’t really think that the demo matters all that much with this show, and we don’t often say that with any series that we talk about here. Remember that this is a show airing Friday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time — a veritable graveyard for most other networks. The fact that this show continues to get even okay numbers is shocking. If you were to move almost any other CBS show to this timeslot other than maybe NCIS, would any of them perform as well as Blue Bloods does? We’re not sure that they do.

What’s the most impressive with this show are the total viewers. Blue Bloods continues to average almost 8.6 million viewers, which continues to position it as one of the most-watched shows out there. This is a drop of less than 6% from the season 9 average to date and that’s incredibly impressive. We think the series could actually boost the average over the next few weeks, as this show tends to perform very well during some of the winter months. (It may be hurt slightly, though, by a standoff between Charter Spectrum and Tribune Media that is causing some CBS affiliates to go dark.)

The larger question

With Blue Bloods, a renewal feels guaranteed on the basis of ratings. It’s more about here whether or not you can get the entire cast back for more episodes. We feel at the moment like that’s going to happen, mostly because we’ve heard no word otherwise. The show has started to lose a few more cast members here and there, though, and there is a chance that could continue; yet, as long as most of the core Reagan family members continue to be a part of the series, we have confidence that it can and will continue. We wouldn’t worry about the future here; if something happens to change the narrative, that’s obviously something that can be discussed then.

Do you think that a Blue Bloods season 10 renewal is going to happen over at CBS? Be sure to share right now in the comments.
