Kevin Hart to appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk Oscars exit

Ellen season 15

Tonight, Ellen DeGeneres made an announcement in a post on Twitter that many may not have seen coming. After all, she recently filmed an interview with Kevin Hart about his offensive comments from his past, ones that led to him dropping out of his Oscars hosting gig.

The interview with Ellen and Hart was originally set to air on her daytime talk show on Monday, but she has since changed her mind. Now, it is going to come on the air tomorrow. This interview is coming online while the Oscars have themselves a rather-important quagmire on their hands — they need to figure out if there is someone out there who would be a suitable host for the show now. They’re in a tricky spot — there may be some comedians worried about having their entire professional history unearthed, including things they said and did in the past. Meanwhile, there may be others who don’t want to look like they were the second choice. There are also others who simply may not want to do the Oscars, one of the most thankless jobs in the entire entertainment industry.

While we know that there are some who are probably interested in hearing at least a little bit of what Hart may have to say on the subject, there are others who simply are not having it. Ellen has already come under fire for having him on the show so soon. We’re personally not surprised that this is where Hart decided to go for his first interview; he has appeared on Ellen on a number of occasions in the past and there is already a relationship there.

Ellen describes this interview as “incredible and honest,” and we interpret that to mean that they may open up about why Hart said some of the things that he said many years ago. There could also be a conversation about how others can be more aware and avoid this sort of controversy and backlash in the past. Ellen’s own sexuality is inevitably going to be a part of the story here, especially since many of Hart’s comments were homophobic in nature.

By the time next Monday rolls around, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Academy ends up naming their host for the next Oscars. We also would not be surprised if it is Ellen, given that she has hosted the show before and tends to receive most-favorable reviews for it. It would not even shock us personally if this was a subject of conversation during the Hart interview.
