Is Jessica Lucas leaving Gotham following events of season 5 premiere?

We had some fears about Tabitha’s fate going into the season, mostly because she was not featured in the promotional photos in the same way that many other characters were. Yet, we did want to continue believing that the character had a chance given the fact that she was so important to the story. She was one of the few allies that Barbara could count on and she also had such a tragic love story with Butch for many years.
Alas, it does seem as though Tabitha is gone — at least on paper. After all, we saw Penguin kill her while also telling her to say hello to Butch in the process. If there is one reason to think that she could survive moving forward, it’s simply that Gotham has quite a habit of bringing people back from the dead already. After all, we’ve already seen Barbara come back herself from near-fatal circumstances and we certainly did with Butch on at least one occasion. The problem here is that with a show like this, sometimes you do need to allow characters to actually die. Tabitha’s even been through it herself in the past.
Lucas first joined Gotham back in the second season and took on a number of different iterations of this character. We saw Tabitha’s role change over time but to us, she was always most interesting as one of the Sirens and also for the feelings that she had towards Butch despite everything that the two of them had gone through. Given that this is the final season, there is a part of us that of course wishes that she had made it to the end. Yet, this is a function of this world where terrible things are going to happen. This premiere death really just sets the tone for everything chaotic that is going to come after the fact. We have a hard time thinking that this is the only death that will be a part of the story moving forward.
