Vikings season 5 episode 17 preview: ‘The Most Terrible Thing’

Vikings season 6 renewal

Are you prepared for Vikings season 5 episode 17? Well, let’s just say that there’s a lot to anticipate here in between what’s going on with Bjorn, Ivar trying to hold on to Kattegat, and of course more battles that are coming between the Saxons and the Vikings. Clearly, that’s not dying down at any point in the near future.

The bad news at the moment is pretty simple: There are only four episodes left in this season. On the flip side of that, though, the good news is that these four episodes could be some of the craziest that we’ve had a chance to see to date. There’s going to be a lot of action here and based on the information out there, it feels like there’s also going to be a lot of death. Heahmund is almost certainly not the only character we’re going to be losing by the time we make it to the end of this season. Heck, there’s a chance that we lose someone next week — with a title like “The Most Terrible Thing,” it definitely does have that sort of anything-can-happen feel to it.

Personally, though, we should make it clear that the story with Ivar and Bjorn has us more intrigued than any other. The show’s resident “God” seems to be a little bit more vulnerable than anyone else and there is a potentially-good opportunity here for some of the other characters to exploit that weakness. Bjorn is the perfect person — he is smart, resourceful, and he understands this character. He is going to be able to make a move against this character in a way that few others would.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official Vikings season 5 episode 17 synopsis with some other information as to what’s coming:

An unexpected turn amongst the settlers leaves Floki powerless. King Alfred confronts Judith. In York, Bjorn must strike a deal with Harald. Wessex is once again threatened by a Viking force, but who will lead the Saxon army to defend the Realm?

As you approach some of the final episodes of this season, the good news that we’ve got is that there really isn’t all that much to worry about when it comes to the future. There’s already a season 6, and at least some of the show’s characters will likely make it to that point. The pressure’s off a little bit and Vikings fans can opt to think a little more about how they want to handle the story that is directly in front of them instead.
