We should start off this preview piece by issuing a bit of a reminder that there are five episodes left to go this season and with that, we do imagine that the drama is going to be pushing itself forward at a fairly-rapid pace. It really has to in order for the writers to cover as much ground as they want in the event that this is the final season. (For now, this is still something that we have to consider as a possibility.)
So what is going to be coming up? Think in terms of Murtaugh getting his vacation reunited, the arrival of Erica’s mother, and some personal drama across the board. Murtaugh takes a family vacation, but is pulled back into work when he witnesses an alleged abduction. Cole is left to investigate a murder himself, but the two cases begin to intersect. Meanwhile, Erica’s (guest star Nishi Munshi) mother, Senator Malick (guest star Anna Khaja), comes to town and stirs things up between Erica, Cole and the case at hand in the all-new “Dial M for Murtaugh” episode of LETHAL WEAPON airing Tuesday, Jan. 8 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Overall, our inkling is that this episode could be a reminder for Murtaugh of some of the rigors of this job. If you recall, there were plenty of rumors that Damon Wayans was going to be leaving the show at the end of the season — ones mostly started by Wayans himself. If that does actually happen, it does make a little bit of sense in order to have a storyline where Murtaugh could theoretically leave down the road, just in case you need it. While we’re not sure being pulled away from vacation would be an impetus for such an enormous decision, it could be one stepping stone of many that eventually brings him to that decision point.
Ultimately, let’s just mark this down as something that we can watch and check out a little bit further down the road.
