Tonight, Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg had a very different sort of TV gig than what we’ve seen form him as Danny Reagan — he was performing some of his hit New Kids on the Block music! The popular vocal group was one of the acts in attendance at New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in New York City.

To call this performance a memorable one for Wahlberg and the rest of the guys doesn’t feel like we’re doing it justice. For starters, it’s one of the most-watched television events of the holiday season — not only are you performing for millions at home, but also countless people in Times Square. Donnie’s wife Jenny McCarthy is also the longtime co-host for the show alongside Ryan Seacrest, so there’s a personal connection to this event for him. Donnie and New Kids performed a medley of some of their greatest hits, and they were also extremely good sports about it given that they were in the middle of the rain. This is a particularly rainy New Year’s Eve in New York City, though at least it’s not super-cold like it was last year.
If you like New Kids on the Block, there’s a pretty good chance that you appreciated this performance from Donnie and the group thoroughly.
While Wahlberg had this gig tonight, rest assured that he will continue to play Danny Reagan on the CBS crime procedural at the same time. He will be back doing that very soon in the new year, and the show is set to return on the network come Friday, January 4. Filming is already several episodes ahead of where the show is right now; hopefully, we’ll have a chance to get some more updates in regards to the future of the series very soon. We’re expecting a meaty back half of episodes, especially since for Donnie’s character given the battle that has been going on between him and Lou Diamond Phillips’ Delgado. It’s going to lead to some extremely-meaty performances, and that’s always what we like to see the most from him!
