CarterMatt Awards 2018 results: Daredevil takes home Bring It Back Award
We’re back with another results piece for the 2018 CarterMatt Awards, and it’s fair to say that this one is a little bit more special than most. After all, we are talking here about the most competitive category of the entire year!
The Bring It Back Award is actually an award that was created this year as a direct response to the shocking number of cancellations across the board. There were a lot of excellent shows this year that, for one reason or another, just didn’t get the love they deserved from given networks. Some were canceled for low ratings whereas others had some bizarre circumstances thrown their way. The basic idea here was to spotlight one show that, perhaps more than any other, deserved an opportunity to come back in some way moving forward. While winning this here does not guarantee much of anything, it is a nice way to spotlight some worthy shows that still have huge audiences.
Given that this was such a competitive category with a number of really great shows featured in it, we do want to give a little bit of love here to a couple of shows that performed really well here. Shadowhunters, for example, drew nearly 5000 votes in this category and that is no small feat — this show has proven time and time again that it has one of the most devoted followings out there, so nothing really surprises us when it comes to the passion of these fans.
Meanwhile, you also have to praise immensely the fans of Salvation, an underdog summer show that had one of the craziest cliffhangers of 2018. It certainly deserves a third season to explore some of what could lie ahead for these characters — if nothing else, we hope this finish proves to networks out there that these fans aren’t going anywhere.
The winner: Daredevil
With a solid 49% of the vote and exactly 32,000 votes, the one-time Netflix series has officially taken the title this year. This is a really impressive victory and something that the series’ fans can hang their hats on as we continue to see what the future of Daredevil as a character is in the MCU.
The cancellation of Daredevil in the first place felt like one of the stranger ones of the year, largely because it was one that may not have had all that much to do with its performance. It, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist all found themselves trapped in a messy situation with Disney on one side and Netflix on the other. It’s going to be a shame if this is how things end here.
