Could an America’s Got Talent: The Champions season 2 ever happen?

America's Got Talent: The Champions

We recognize that we haven’t even made it yet to the first season of America’s Got Talent: The Champions, but why not start to look ahead? We do think that there is a lot of buzz out there, and depending on how the show fares in the ratings, NBC may look at doing something more with the franchise.

Unfortunately, we have a feeling that doing so would be a little bit difficult. NBC has put almost all of their eggs into making season 1 a success, and that includes adding many of their most-notable alum including Darci Lynne, Shin Lim, and of course Britain’s Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle.

Are there some other notable contestants out there who aren’t on this season? Sure. Terry Fator isn’t performing, and neither is Grace VanderWaal. Lindsey Stirling turned down appearing on the show, and it’s possible some other notable acts may have as well. Fator already has a huge Vegas show and we know that VanderWaal has been getting into acting as of late. There are some other under-the-radar champions like Michael Grimm and Kevin Skinner, but how many casual AGT fans in 2018 remember them?

If NBC does figure out a way to do another season of this, it’s possible that they could put together another lineup of reasonably notable past contestants, including maybe a big name or two that weren’t able to do it this time — plus, they would have another season to pull from, plus still a fairly-large pool of international participants. We just think that over time, the pool would dilute and you wouldn’t have anywhere near as good of a group anymore.

With that in mind, our suggestion is to maybe bring this show back every three or four years; that way, you’ve got a fresh crop of people from all over the world to choose from. We’re not really in favor of bringing the same people back time and time again, and the only other way we could see a show like this working annually is if it became more about international acts nobody in America has really seen before — there’s just so many notable ones that aren’t a part of this season and the US roster is a little more picked over.

If the ratings end up being grate for Champions, we’re confident that NBC is going to figure something out here. It’s certainly something to take a wait-and-see approach on.
