SEAL Team season 2 episode 12 spoilers: Why is the team heading to Turkey?

SEAL Team season 2 episode 12

Moving into the new year, SEAL Team is going to be on the other side of the Andres Doza saga. With that, it appears as though the show is moving back (at least temporarily) towards a mission-of-the-week format.

As previously reported, the upcoming winter premiere on January 2 is going to feature the team working alongside the British Special Air Service; meanwhile, the January 9 episode is going to feature them off in Turkey, taking on one of their more controversial missions of the series. CarterMatt has the official SEAL Team season 2 episode 12 synopsis below, and we’ll let it do the majority of the talking:

“Things Not Seen” – Bravo Team travels to Turkey to rescue a young American who voluntarily married an ISIS leader, on SEAL TEAM, Wednesday, Jan. 9 (9:01-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Obviously, it will be the word “voluntarily” that is going to raise a lot of eyebrows here, especially since it raises the question as to whether or not the team is obligated to help someone who put themselves in this position knowing full well who they were marrying. It certainly sounds like they were aware that they were marrying a terrorist, but this is where some more nuance comes into play. How much were they manipulated into doing the act, or were they just so impressionable that they were given a lot of false promises and they expected the relationship to be something a little bit different from what it was? These are likely questions that the Bravo Team is thinking about here.

Also, you have to remember that if this woman was especially nefarious herself, why would the team be rescuing her? This is going to be a story about action, but it may also be a story about trying to understand what would bring someone to make this particular decision in the first place.

All in all, it does appear as though this will be one of the show’s more thought-provoking episodes, and we’re sure that there will be at least some sort of personal update mixed in here. There are still certainly many different storylines that are open-ended, whether it be Jason trying to raise his kids without Alana or Clay trying to come to grips with where he is emotionally. We don’t think the threads that were established at the end of the last episode this year are going to suddenly go away.

Given that SEAL Team is going to be taking a lengthy hiatus for much of the month of February, our advice at the moment is fairly simple: Enjoy some of these January episodes for however long you can.
