According to the New York Post, Banks may be departing her role as host for the NBC show after two seasons in order to focus on producing and some other projects. There’s been a little bit of speculation regarding the future of Banks on the show for some time — Terry Crews is hosting the upcoming America’s Got Talent: The Champions in the new year, and he was also responsible for the recent holiday special. This could end up being an audition-of-sorts for a more full-time gig for the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor, provided of course that this is something that he would be interested in taking on.

All of this goes alongside some of what Banks told Access earlier this year regarding her future with the franchise:

“I don’t know [if I’ll be coming back] … I think I had a really nice run with AGT. I had a lot, a lot of fun. I’m really focusing on Life-Size — I’m going to be producing TV and I have a massive project starting next year. I’m not so sure, but if I don’t come back, I had a lot of fun.”

Banks received somewhat mixed reviews in her time as host — personally, we wish that she engaged in some of the silliness of the show a little more like Nick Cannon did, but she kept the show moving and was fine in the role from top to bottom. Hosting a reality show like this is ultimately one of the more thankless jobs out there, mostly in that you don’t get a lot of praise for some of the work you bring to the table and instead, you have to deal with a lot of criticism. You’re really not there for the entertainment, and instead, you’re mostly just there in order to keep things moving along.

Ultimately, America’s Got Talent should have a little bit of time in order to figure out their plans for the show’s future, mostly because filming for the actual auditions doesn’t happen until the spring. (Auditions are underway, but the parts with the host are never filmed until down the road.)
