The Walking Dead season 9 spoilers: Boss hypes up Whisperer storyline

Speaking in a new interview with ComicBook.com, showrunner Angela Kang did her best to preview why she was so excited to tackle some of what’s happening with this group of people, plus the leader Alpha and some of their strange tendencies:
“The Whisperers story in the comic is one of my favorites from the comic … That storyline was coming out in the comics as I was working on the show. We were literally reading – we get the individual issues in the office and we were reading them and were like, ‘What is he doing? What’s happening? What’s happening?’ We were literally, ‘What’s happening? Could this be it?’ … And then it’s like, I just feel like the answer was so much more strange and rewarding than I thought it would be.”
There are comic readers out there that will probably be able to see at least some of the twists coming in terms of this group, but hopefully, there are some other viewers who will be able to really embrace some of the surprises and get totally into whatever the weird, mad-cap story is going to be with these people. We’ve already got our first major salvo via the death of Jesus, and we think that it’s fair to say that there is going to be even more strangeness coming in the weeks ahead and we are more than psyched to see what some of the writers bring to the table — especially since the future of the series itself is poised to potentially deviate further from the comics. That is why happens when you are doing something in a medium where certain characters can choose to leave depending on whatever else is happening in their lives / a contract situation.
The Walking Dead season 9 returns to AMC in February, and we’ve got a feeling that there’s so much more interesting stuff to be said when it comes to the story of the Whisperers. Stay tuned for some of that; for us, just getting a performer of Samantha Morton’s caliber on the show is a cause for overall excitement in itself.
