Shadowhunters season 3 video: Magnus’ morning without magic

At the core of this sneak peek is the story that happened at the end of season 3A — Magnus’ decision to sacrifice his magic. It wasn’t an easy thing to do, given that we are talking about someone whose identity has been tied so closely to magic for most of his life. It’s not an easy move for him to transition away from that, but there’s something rather delightful about seeing him trying to put his best foot forward with it. That includes him getting up early and trying to do chores the old-fashioned way. You see that in this preview, as he went to the farmer’s market in hopes of getting ingredients for the proper breakfast. As it turns out, making orange juice is not anywhere near as easy when you cannot just use a spell to make it happen.
We value these sort of domestic Malec scenes greatly, as we know many other viewers do. They are a big part of the heart of the show, as this is a relationship that continues to be a shining light even through dark times. Of course, there will still be some roadblocks and we don’t think that Magnus will be able to keep his positive outlook on a life without magic forever. It’s one thing to make breakfast without powers; it’s another when the team is in danger and he cannot help in his typical way.
From a writing standpoint, we image that this is going to be a whole lot of fun to explore this new dimension of the character. Magnus is still Magnus, at least in that he has the same heart and he cares about the same things. Yet, a big part of what made him the person he is is gone. It will take a little bit of time to see what the aftereffects of this truly are, but we have at least twelve more episodes to explore both this and a number of other exciting Malec stories.
