Victoria season 3 is coming in the new year … or at least it is for some people. This may be one of the stranger premiere-date situations that we’ve seen for a British series.
Typically, the way things work with many of these shows that air on PBS as a part of their Masterpiece lineup is simple: They premiere first in Great Britain, and then following that they eventually come to America. With some shows, including Victoria in the past, they premiere on PBS months after the fact.
However, that’s not exactly the case this time around! If you have not heard, the Jenna Coleman series is going to be back on PBS starting on Sunday, January 13; there is a new teaser for what is coming up below, in the event you want to get a little more scoop all about it. Where things get a little bit strange, however, is that there is no word as of yet as to when it will be coming on in the UK just yet beyond 2019. It’s possible that the show could air later in the UK than it is in America, which is certainly a rather-unusual situation.
So, could this be a pattern for the series moving forward? That remains to be seen, but we do think that there is a pretty-simple reason that we’re seeing PBS continue to air the show when they are. The network likes to do more or less whatever they can to keep their programming on a steady schedule; viewers know when it expect certain shows on the air and because of that, there’s never any real confusion. That’s absolutely helpful and it does help these shows to build more of an audience.
However, in the UK there are some assorted reasons for the wait. Some of it simply was the wait to renew Victoria for a third season to begin with. Also, series star Jenna Coleman worked on another show during the break in The Cry. She went on and took on another gig before coming back to play the Queen. There may be some scheduling reasons why UK viewers are having to wait so long.
One way or another, though, viewers are going to have a chance to see the gift of more Victoria throughout the coming year. We are absolutely psyched to see what the remainder of Victoria and Albert’s story, or at least the TV version of it, will look like.
