Bodyguard states its case for season 2, Killing Eve strong via iPlayer figures
This week, the British broadcaster revealed their most-popular episodes of the year via their catch-up service, and with that the premiere of Bodyugard was at the top of the list. This episode was requested more than 10.5 million times, making it the most-requested episode in the history of the service. Add to this the monster live ratings for the series from earlier this year and it’s clear that the Richard Madden series, provided that the right story is there, will be back down the line. We’re a little bit surprised that there is no season 2 officially announced just yet, but clearly this is a case of the BBC trying to make sure that they have a quality story here before rushing things along when it comes to a renewal.
To go along with all of these ratings, Bodyguard was the recipient of a ton of love at the Golden Globes, with nominations both for the series as well as for Madden.
Here’s another big of fantastic trivia for the show: Every single episode of the first season was on BBC’s top ten list for iPlayer. As for the other four, they were all Killing Eve. The Sandra Oh – Jodie Comer series was the #2 requested series of the year, with it performing exceptionally well overseas to go along with its performance on BBC America in the United States. Like Bodyguard, Killing Eve has also been the subject of tremendous awards buzz and has its fair share of nominations — unlike Bodyguard, however, it already has a season 2 renewal.
In a statement about the performance of these two shows, BBC Director of Content Charlotte Moore had the following message to pass along:
“These figures show that the BBC iPlayer remains the first choice for thrilling dramas, big sporting moments and the very best natural history and factual programmes. This year’s figures are the best yet and show that the BBC iPlayer is going from strength to strength. With Les Misérables, The Greatest Dancer and a new series of Fleabag coming up in the new year there will be more great programmes for audiences to enjoy in 2019.”
Hopefully, there will be some more news coming on the future of Bodyguard in the new year, provided that we don’t get it beforehand. For now, we simply recommend heading over to the link here and getting some more of the latest scoop.
