The Rookie episode 9 spoilers: Bradford’s wife returns
For those who have been wondering about the future of The Rookie, we finally have some details about episode 9! Of course, the bad news here is that you are going to be waiting for a while in order to see it. There is no new episode either next week or the week after due to the holiday season, and with that, you’re stuck sitting around until Tuesday, January 8. That is when “Standoff” is going to air but, at least based on some early details, this installment could end up being worth the wait. If nothing else, it does feel as though it’s going to be one of the most emotional installments that we’ve had a chance to see so far.

“Standoff” – Officer Bradford’s wife, Isabel, is found shot but alive and he vows to track down the man responsible. Meanwhile, Officer Nolan must protect his home and the truth after a home invasion attack, on “The Rookie,” airing TUESDAY, JAN. 8 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.
Obviously, the story of Bradford and Isabel has been a part of the show from the beginning, with her serving as the one real personal vulnerability that the character has. It’s a blindspot for him out in the field and an understandable one. It’s such a difficult demon that she is trying to conquer and it may take some time before she actually can … if she actually can. There is no real guarantee of anything.
As for John Nolan’s part of the story, what could make this one so interesting creatively is that it’s putting the character in a position that he hasn’t quite been in so far in the series, one where he may have to use some of his skills that he’s learned as a police officer outside of that role and back in more of a home setting. It’s a lot of different stuff for him to combine and reconcile and it could help to be an interesting component in this particular story.
If nothing else, at least “Standoff’ should be an interesting jumping-off point to whatever we see in the second half of the season. We’re actually not even at the halfway point of the story just yet, so clearly there are a number of different interesting things to come a little bit down the road.
