Elementary season 7 casts Gotham alum as Odin Reichenbach

According to Deadline, True Blood and Gotham alum James Frain is going to appear starting in episode 5 as a notable foe for one Sherlock Holmes. He’s following up the most-recent Big Bad on the show in serial killer Michael, who killed as a way to curb some of his other addictions and challenged Sherlock to continue to take part in the cycle of trying to stop him from murdering more people.
Villains on Elementary have a history of having a pretty-interesting trajectory. Mostly, they have to find a way to make a meal out of what is a very small amount of total screen time a season. Because this show is technically a procedural, there really is only so much time that we’re going to have to see of them every year. Michael, for example, had an extended absence throughout the midway point of season 6. Back when Natalie Dormer was actually appearing as Moriarty, meanwhile, we were only getting her in just a handful of episodes. It’s a part of this show’s nature.
Luckily, we do at least know that Frain is a super-talented guy who can take on dark, menacing roles in a wide array of different ways. This is a role that will allow him to do some really interesting stuff and we’re absolutely excited to see how much of that plays out. We’re hoping that this part ends up being one that tests Sherlock in some ways that we haven’t seen so far. If this is going to be the end of the road for the series, we absolutely do want it to end with the biggest bang possible. It’s a series that needs to be remembered and with that, we hope that the best is still yet to come.
There is no official premiere date at the moment for Elementary season 7 but personally, we’re expecting an opportunity to see it back on the air by the time we roll around to the late spring / summer. Since this is the end, CBS really doesn’t have any pressure to air the show other than whenever they decide is the right time.
