Last Man Standing

The official ratings are in for Friday night, and to the surprise of no one, Last Man Standing came out on top.

Last night’s new episode, which was themed almost entirely around the holiday season, ended up generating a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic alongside 5.5 million viewers. The bad news is that this is one of the lower ratings that we’ve seen for the show so far this season. Yet, the silver lining here is that the Fox series still won the night in the key demo. That’s something that Fox can be happy with, and you also have to consider the real-life competition at this point — we’re at that time of the year when a lot of series start to struggle because people are off engaging in other pre-Christmas holiday traditions.

As for The Cool Kids after the fact, the series ended up generating a 0.8 rating — very much suitable given all of the competition that we’ve just outlined. Both of these shows are going to be returning to the air in early 2019 and with episodes that we imagine will performer rather well. Fox has set up something pretty lucrative on Friday nights, which we’re assuming they will move to another part of the schedule next year once WWE SmackDown takes over the Friday timeslot.

As for Midnight, Texas…

The supernatural series was one of the only other new programs last night, as the majority of networks out there are against putting just a flurry of programming on the air. After all, they recognize that there isn’t that much value in continuing to put them on the air unless they’re just trying to air out the remainder of the season. That’s the case here, since NBC is trying to make room for the new season of The Blacklist more so than they are doing anything else.

The good news for Midnight, Texas is that it stayed fairly steady with the same 0.4 rating it posted in the demo last week when it followed up a new Blindspot. The bad news, however, is that this is more than likely still not enough to get the show renewed for another season. We want to hope for the best here, but at the same time are trying to be at least somewhat realistic about the overall prospects.
