As you probably remember vividly from the events of the recent fall finale, it just so turns out that Michael had a fail-safe plan to return to Dean’s body the moment that he had a reason to do so. That happened in the episode and now, it also feels like Michael’s got even more control over him than he once did. Suffice it to say, that’s a problem given everything that he’s planning.
With Michael now inhabiting Dean, this is really a two-birds-with-one-stone sort of situation. Michael now has the ability to both be able to execute some of what he wants while also taking away a potential opposition in the process. Dean was one of the people best-equipped to take him down and now he’s gone … or at least he is if Sam and Castiel cannot find a way in order to bring him back. That’s going to be a big part of the upcoming episode, as the promo below suggests that the two will be making a journey into Dean’s mind in order to determine where he is. The problem is that it does not appear as though the character is to be found. He’s probably somewhere deep within there but finding a way to get him is not going to be easy.
Basically, the most exciting thing about this episode is the opportunity to see Jensen Ackles inhabit this character once more. This is an opportunity for him as an actor to show off a really interesting other side; luckily, we’re getting to see a lot of exciting content in here in the aftermath of it. This episode is going to be intense, and while we want Dean back, at the same time we don’t think it needs to be really rushed. Given that one of the big sells for Supernatural entering this season was getting a chance to see Dean in this form, shouldn’t the series at least run with it for a little while? This is at least a good chance to really test this out and see what sort of damage Michael can inflict.
