The Rookie episode 9 return date hopes for Nathan Fillion, cast

The sad news is that, alas, there is no new episode coming onto ABC in one week’s time. You’re going to be waiting for a little while now to see what is coming up next … but luckily, you won’t be waiting all that much. According to a new report from the Futon Critic, The Rookie episode 9 is going to be premiering on January 8. This is when the bulk of ABC’s Tuesday-night lineup is going to be coming on the air and with that in mind, it makes sense to bring it back at this point, as well. This is a show, after all, that has a full-season order and because of that, it’s going to be on the air for a rather long time still.
If we were ABC, though, it’s clear that there is one thing that they should be thinking about more so than anything else: The performance of The Rookie in the ratings. After all, things have not been going anywhere near as well for this season as we hoped going into it. This is a network that has long struggled to deliver enormous hits in the 18-49 demographic on Tuesday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time. For now, The Rookie season 1 has brought in on average a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is enough to land it firmly on the bubble. We’re not 100% confident that it’s going to be coming back for another season, but there’s at least a chance that it could.
So what will be the determining factor on the future for The Rookie? At the moment, our feeling is that it’s going to depend, more than anything else, on the ratings for the show in the new year. Typically, series do tend to decline in the ratings from the fall to the spring. Unfortunately, The Rookie is the sort of show that cannot afford to lose any more of its audience. It needs to keep almost all of its viewership and if that happens, we do think that it has at least some sort of reasonable chance to come back — but a decision may not be made, one way or another, until we get around to the spring.
