Following tonight’s fall finale, you should know in advance that the Black Lightning season 2 episode 10 return date is in a slightly different spot…
Really ever since the Cress Williams series first premiered, it’s had the luxury of being able to air on Tuesday nights following The Flash — this is the best lead-in that The CW has to offer since the Grant Gustin show is their most-popular series. It’s performed very well in the ratings and because of that, it serves as a great launching pad for other shows to get off to a great start.
Basically, this is the reason why Black Lightning is going to be on the move. The CW wants to use this particular timeslot in January on new series Roswell, New Mexico in hopes of getting it off to the best ratings start possible. This is why Black Lightning will be back on Monday, January 21 with new episodes. It will be taking over the place of Legends of Tomorrow on Mondays; the Caity Lotz series is going to return a little bit later in the spring with the final portion of its season.
While we’re a little bit nervous about Black Lightning moving to its new timeslot, our hope here is obviously that it’s been on the air for long-enough now that there is an understanding as to what it brings to the table and with that in mind, it already has a core audience established. We’re cautiously optimistic that it could back for another season, but we’re also aware of the fact that it is down substantially in the 18-49 demographic so far this season versus season 1, when it had a little bit more buzz and discussion going on around it. The season 1 average is somewhat inflated because of big numbers around the premiere; if nothing else, the ratings for the past month or two for Black Lightning have been fairly steady. The majority of the people who were on board with the show a few months ago are still the people who are on board it now. It doesn’t appear as though it’s shedding many viewers and because of that, we’ve got a little bit more hope for whatever its future will be.
Hopefully, at some point in the coming weeks there will be more news actually released about the future of Black Lightning, at least in terms of the story ahead. It’s hard to imagine there being anything released about its future beyond this season until we get around to the spring.
