One thing that certainly feels clear following this episode is that the series is going to be off the air for at least a little while. According to the Futon Critic, Melissa Benoist and the rest of the cast will be back on Sunday, January 20 — this date feels about right, given that at this point, the show will be able to run new episodes through most of the February sweeps before likely taking another hiatus. It makes more sense for The CW to air their episodes in blocks than constantly rotating between repeats and new installments.

As for what we can expect to see on season 4 episode 10, we’re mostly expecting somewhat of a return to the season’s roots with Agent Liberty, Lena Luthor’s tests, and a lot of the current-day politics of National City. The crossover has been a fun little detour and a chance to see Kara in a really different setting, but this show isn’t going to just abandon much of what they’ve done the legwork on so far this season. It wouldn’t make any sense for them to do so. We know that there is already one new character cast for the second half of the season and more could be coming — there’s also Lex Luthor, who will be coming eventually on the show though no specific air date for his first installment has been specified.

As for the season 5 renewal odds…

At the moment, there is certainly quite a bit to be optimistic over! This may not be the #1 show on The CW ratings-wise, but in the end what matters more than anything else is if it’s able to keep up some of the momentum that it’s established. Meanwhile, it does also have a really large DVR / On-Demand viewership to go along with all of the people out there who are streaming it and enjoying it at their own pace. Because of the international popularity of the Supergirl character, there is no reason to think that Kara Zor-El will be leaving your television anytime soon — even if DC decides to make a movie about the character at some point moving forward.
