My Brilliant Friend season 2 premiere date hopes over on HBO
Well, we should start things off here by noting that there will be a second season of the drama series by HBO and Italian broadcaster RAI. It has received a great deal of critical acclaim, including a nomination at the Critics’ Choice Awards earlier in the day, and clearly, there’s a belief that there is room for additional growth. We certainly believe that in terms of the series’ odds for greater success stateside.
In a statement, here is what HBO’s programming head Casey Bloys had to say about the renewal:
“We’re thrilled that Elena Ferrante’s epic story has resonated so powerfully with viewers and critics, and we look forward to the continuing journey of Elena and Lila.”
Meanwhile, RAI CEO Fabrizio Salini added the following:
“RAI is deeply proud of the extraordinary success of My Brilliant Friend. It’s an important milestone that confirms our commitment to focusing on international co-production, as well as on the value of Italian talent.”
So when could the second season premiere? There is no confirmed date as of yet but it’s certainly possible that new episodes could end up launching in late 2019 / early 2020. HBO is using this show to further show some of their commitment to co-productions, something that they have also done as of late with The Young Pope and some of its future successors. This offers the network an opportunity to be able to deliver more quality programming to its subscribers without having to front all of the costs themselves. This is really useful when we are at times that are late in the year and the network wants to ensure, despite the tight window between Thanksgiving and Christmas, that there are still some exciting things that they can put on the air that will appeal to many of their viewers.
Of course, we imagine that the hope also is here with a show like My Brilliant Friend is that you’re going to see the network work to find it an even-greater audience throughout the coming months with additional promotion. Of course, awards nominations certainly never hurt the future odds of getting a larger audience. This is something that always takes a little bit of time with premium-cable original series, especially ones that are a little bit under-the-radar in nature.
Of course, once we’ve got some more news when it comes to My Brilliant Friend and the future of the series once some of those details are available.
