Following tonight’s finale, what are the chances of a Dancing with the Stars: Juniors season 2 renewal over at ABC? Is this something that we should really expect to see transpire?
Following tonight’s finale, we do think that the future of this ballroom competition is still a little bit hazy. Why? Despite the sense of fun and celebration that the show brought to the table the first time around, the ratings were very much still a big hazy.
To be specific, the first season of Dancing with the Stars: Juniors ended up drawing overall a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and, to go along with that, just over 4.3 million live viewers an episode. From a budgetary standpoint, maybe this isn’t all too big of an issue. This isn’t the most expensive show in the world to make — it’s not live like the flagship show and the young cast don’t carry with them the same hefty price tag as the original iteration of the series.
Yet, the issue we foresee here is that these ratings don’t provide all that much of a launching pad to some of the other shows on the network. ABC’s Sunday-night lineup has not exactly been spectacular, to put it lightly. Dancing with the Stars: Juniors and Shark Tank were not exactly pulling in banner numbers and then, to go along with that, we saw The Alec Baldwin Show perform so badly within its first batch of episodes that it was eventually pulled and moved over to Saturday nights.
Luckily, we do think that ABC has a lot of time in order to figure out what the future should be for Dancing with the Stars: Junior, especially given the fact that they don’t have to make up their mind until May. Interestingly, they haven’t really announced too much as of yet when it comes to Dancing with the Stars proper. We’re pretty confident when it comes to the eventual future of the main series, but we do feel like things are at least somewhat hazy when it comes to the Juniors edition. we think that this is really going to come down to whether or not ABC has some other programming that they would rather have on instead for the upcoming fall season. Once they take a closer look at some of their pilots, they will be able to figure some of this out a little bit better.
Obviously, we will let you know more about the show’s future once there is some more news coming in on the subject!
