What’s coming up on this special is going to be, in part, a story all about trying to better understand how to properly preserve holiday traditions through the years. One of the realities here is that as characters get older, what we often see in turn is them decide that they are either too mature or too “cool” to keep certain traditions alive. They don’t want to continue doing the same things that they’ve done in the past. That may be even more true when they start to have families of their own and think that it’s time to start their own traditions.
Yet, sometimes the past doesn’t actually go away even when you want it to … and sometimes you also come to realize that you miss it. All of these things are key components to this episode, which we are personally hoping will be both incredibly fun and also festive. The preview below doesn’t necessarily touch on some of the larger stories within this episode, but you do get a really fun line from Vanessa about how wine may be one of her favorite holiday traditions … with decorating the tree up there on the list, as well.
Why are Baxter family Christmases important to viewers?
More so than anything else, they are touchstones! They are reminders as to where characters are in their lives and also how they still keep the essence of who they are even if they are changing in so many ways. Christmas is one of those few times of the year where so much of the chaos of the other 364 days falls by the wayside and you are able to just relax and start to enjoy yourself. There are few other days quite like it and we certainly hope, with this in mind, that this episode lives up to many of our own personal expectations.
Plus, Christmas specials are important just because they’re the last episodes we tend to get for a rather long time. After this installment, Last Man Standing will be off the air for at least a couple of weeks.
