If you recall, in the first season Reddington did spend a good bit of time under lock and key via the FBI, which was a part of his new arrangement to get closer to Liz Keen and take out a number of notable Blacklisters on the outside world. This season, it does look as though Reddington may be getting locked up once more, with the big difference now being that the character could be brought in under very different circumstances. This is something that is highlighted within the recent season 6 trailer, one that suggests that we could have quite the game of cat-and-mouse coming. This is a different landscape than anything that we’ve had a chance to see before on the series, largely because Liz is privy to information that she never quite had. She realizes now, in full, that the Reddington before her is an imposter. This is inevitably going to impact her and by the time that episode 2 airs on Friday, January 4, we’ll get a larger scope as to precisely how the format of this season will work in the early going.

Below, CarterMatt does offer up the official The Blacklist season 6 episode 2 synopsis with a little bit of information as to what is coming up next:

As Liz (Megan Boone) and the Task Force race to stop an imminent bombing by an elusive Blacklister, Red (James Spader) has an encounter that will change the trajectory of his life forever. Fiona Dourif and Christopher Lambert guest star.

Judging from the photo above alone, it seems as though James Spader’s character will be locked-up already by the time we make it to this point. The show’s not going to waste a whole lot of time in going bit, which is certainly going to be great for the series as a whole given that that you always do want to start a season off with a big twist. That shows to your viewers that you’re excited to deliver on some big twists; here’s to hoping that this is really just scratching the surface for a number of really exciting things that are coming up.
